Louix Louis Sunday Brunch Review

Restaurant: Louix Louis
Location: Inside the St. Regis Hotel, downtown-Toronto
Meal: Sunday Brunch

Toronto is home to quite a few incredible brunch spots. A few weeks ago, I treated a close friend of mine, Betty, to a post-birthday Sunday brunch. I’ve enjoyed brunch at a number of local Toronto restaurants, but this time around I wanted to try something new and more importantly, I wanted to treat Betty to something truly special.

Betty and I met last year while working for the same company. Work friendships typically don’t last when people leave a company and move on to new opportunities. With Betty and I, however, things were different. Although we both subsequently left the company we stayed in touch and remained close. Betty has been such an incredible friend and although we’ve only known each other for just a little over a year she’s the type of friend I feel I’ve known for a lifetime. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make it out to Betty’s birthday dinner, which I’m still bummed about, but not being able to attend gave me a good excuse to treat her to a special birthday brunch, just the two of us! During my search for the perfect brunch experience, I came across Louix Louis restaurant located on the 31st floor of the St. Regis Hotel in downtown-Toronto and I knew it would be the perfect place to treat Betty for her birthday.

The Interior

When it comes to atmosphere, service, and food, it’s easy to see why Louix Louis rises above the rest. Louix Louis is the type of restaurant you’d expect to see inside an exclusive hotel like the St. Regis. One word comes to mind when describing Louix Louis, opulence.  The interior decor is breathtaking and screams luxury. The restaurant features warm tones with amber and gold and a breathtaking marble bar. Situated on the 31st floor of the St. Regis, at Louix Louis you’re treated to phenomenal views the Toronto skyline.

The Service & Food

The staff was courteous and attentive. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with friendly smiles and treated like royalty. Our server was warm, patient and accommodating. He explained our options, gave his recommendations

Louix Louis offers a few brunch options, we knew we wouldn’t be able to eat an entire three-course meal, and settled on the two-course brunch experience, priced reasonably at $42 per person.

For our appetizers, we selected local oysters (my choice) and the beef tartare (Betty’s choice). The steak tartar was mixed with grainy mustard and tasted delightful. The oysters were fresh and delicious. For the main course, I selected the Fried Chicken and Waffles. The waffle was lovely, super crispy on the outside but warm and fluffy on the inside. The fried chicken was my favourite thing to eat, well-seasoned and incredibly moist! For her main, Betty selected the Steak and Eggs Florentine, the steak and eggs were cooked perfectly, and the hollandaise sauce was a delight and tied the dish together perfectly. We washed it all down with bottomless mimosas ($25).

High-end doesn’t necessarily mean expensive. One of the things I love about Louix Louis is that although it’s ultra-chic, they have a number of affordably priced menu items to select from. In my opinion, it’s well priced for the quality of food and experience you receive. If you’re on the hunt for an exquisite Sunday brunch experience in downtown-Toronto that’ll make you feel like royalty, I highly recommend Louix Louis. Overall Betty and I had a great dining experience and we’ll definitely be back, but perhaps on a weekday after a long day of work.
